The Faculty of Economics at Al-Taqwa Institute of Higher Education is pleased to celebrate World Food Day on October 16th.
World Food Day is an international day celebrated every year worldwide on October 16 to commemorate the date of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945. The day is celebrated widely by many other organizations concerned with hunger and food security, including the World Food Program, the World Health Organization and the International Fund for Agricultural Development
Over 10 percent of the world’s population suffers from hunger despite the fact that plenty of food is produced to feed everyone. And over a third of all food ends up going to waste, a problem particularly prevalent in wealthy Western countries. These are the kinds of facts that are behind the drive to eliminate world hunger by 2030, the UN’s SDG 1 (No Poverty-Zero Hunger).
The session is open to public and we welcome the needy members of the local community to visit Al-Taqwa Institute of Higher Education on October 16th for serving the lunch, takeaway of food to their families and celebrate the World Food Day with us.
